The first thing you need to do is to appoint a person as the Sponsor for the project; a senior manager (preferably a board member) who:

• Owns the project outcome
• Funds and resources the project
• Makes high-level decisions for the project

The Project Manager reports to this person.

The amount of time needed from a Sponsor is minimized, as senior managers are usually busy. They should be able to spend 5 to 10 hours per month on the project after the Preparation activities, and up to 30 hours for Preparation.
